Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or just not really paying that much attention, you will know that BMW are putting its best foot forward into the world of electric vehicles under the guise of a new sub-brand called BMW i. Initially there will be two models – the i3, which is a small, slightly quirky looking city car – and the simply drop-dead-gorgeous i8.
Movie fans will recognise the i8 as it is essentially the concept that was driven by Scientology Overlord Tom Cruise in the latest Mission Impossible movie. The production model hasn’t changed all that much and is to go on sale here in Ireland next summer.
Pricing will start at €136,430, which I know may seem like a huge amount of value, but given the level of technology that’s inside the car such as the carbon fibre composite construction and the most up to date hybrid and battery technology, the i8 is actually a reasonable proposition when you look at how many other ‘normal’ vehicles sell for the same amount of money. Personally, I love it.
