SEAT Leon FR – Reviewed

SEAT Leon FR mainAs some of you may know, SEAT is of course part of the rather significant Volkswagen Group, and up until recently it had a bit of a reputation for being the runt of the litter. That was until the Leon arrived. This current model is not just one of the best looking cars SEAT has ever made, but it’s one of the best looking cars in its class – a class that includes some stiff competition such as the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 308 and the slightly left of centre Volvo V40. The Golf is technically the Leon’s closest rival as both cars share much of the same structural architecture. Continue reading

SEAT Leon gets bigger

SEAT Leon ST main

We’re big fans here at The Engine Room Show of the SEAT Leon, mainly because it looks great and doesn’t cost anywhere near to what a Golf costs. Now there’s another model to get to choose from – the ST. Normally we’d laugh at calling an estate car a ‘Sports Tourer’, but those stylish people at SEAT have made even this muy practical car looks pretty darn good.

The sensible choice is the 105hp 1.6-litre TDI engine which is frugal and clean – it emits just 99g/km of CO2 meaning it’s cheap to tax too. It comes in a choice of five-speed manual of the rather excellent DSG automatic gearbox. You can pick from three different trim levels; S, SE and FR – the latter being the best and sportiest looking one to go for.

SEAT Leon ST interiorPrices start at €20,185 though expect to pay around €24,405 for a mid-range car. And if you’re feeling very flush, a 184hp 2.0-litre TDI in FR trim (aka mega) is available at a price of €29,930. SEAT is also now offering the Leon ST with a four-wheel drive system called 4Drive, which can be ordered on diesel-engined cars.

The New SEAT LEON

So, today, The Engine Room Show went to the launch of the brand new SEAT LEON.

This is a nice looking car, folks:

The launch was in The Aviva Stadium, which was a cracking place to launch a car.
The pitch was being tended to with artificial light and rollers while we were there:

We had a bite to eat in a fancy box and then we went downstairs to the changing room!
Now, that was cool but having your own jersey with your name on it hanging in the changing room was SUPER-COOL!

I’m not smiling because the jersey in question is a Rovers jersey. As a Bohs fan, that was as happy as I could be.

The changing rooms are really cool.

We got to walk out on to the pitch too!

Then, we all got a pic on the Irish bench!

This was the sight that greeted us coming down the stairs out of The Aviva.

So cool!

And they’re all FR models.

And I got one in black to drive for a week.

Extra nice.
